01 Overview
This Refund & Cancellation Policy ("Policy") applies to all purchases made on alt-ed.in (the "Platform"), operated by Placeholder Technologies trading as alted.
alted. is a digital marketplace for downloadable creative assets. Because digital files are delivered immediately upon purchase and cannot be "returned" in the traditional sense, our default policy is that all sales are final. However, we recognise that specific exceptional circumstances warrant a refund, and this Policy outlines exactly when and how refunds are granted.
This Policy is consistent with the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 as applicable to digital goods, and with the general expectation of payment gateways including Cashfree and Paytm.
02 General No-Refund Rule
As a marketplace for digital downloads, all purchases on alted. are non-refundable by default. This is because:
- Digital files are delivered immediately upon payment confirmation
- Once downloaded, a digital file cannot be "returned" or its use undone
- The nature of digital goods means there is no inventory cost to the Seller on delivery
By completing a purchase on alted., you acknowledge and agree to this no-refund default and confirm that you have reviewed the product listing, previews, and description before purchasing.
03 Eligible Refund Circumstances
Refunds will be issued only in the following two circumstances:
1. Duplicate Purchase
If you accidentally purchase the same Digital Asset more than once (i.e., you already own a valid licence for the same asset), you are eligible for a full refund of the duplicate transaction. To qualify:
- Both purchases must be made from the same account
- The refund request must be submitted within 7 days of the duplicate purchase
- You must not have downloaded the file from the duplicate purchase (where technically detectable)
2. Corrupted or Undeliverable File
If the downloaded file is genuinely corrupted, broken, incomplete, or cannot be opened with the software specified in the listing, you are eligible for a full refund or file replacement. To qualify:
- The refund or replacement request must be submitted within 7 days of purchase
- You must provide a description of the issue and, where possible, a screenshot or error message
- alted. will first attempt to provide a corrected file via the Seller. A refund will be issued only if the Seller cannot provide a working replacement within 5 business days
- Duplicate purchase of same asset
- File is corrupted / won't open
- File not delivered after payment
- Payment debited but download unavailable
- Change of mind
- Wrong asset purchased by mistake
- Software incompatibility not stated in listing
- Asset doesn't match personal expectations
- Plagiarized content claims
- Requests after 14-day window
04 Non-Eligible Circumstances
The following are explicitly excluded from refund eligibility:
- Change of mind — if you no longer want the asset or found an alternative after purchase
- Wrong purchase — if you purchased the wrong asset, wrong format, or wrong version by mistake
- Incompatibility — if the file doesn't work with software not mentioned in the listing (you are responsible for verifying compatibility before purchase)
- Quality dissatisfaction — if the file works as described but doesn't meet your personal quality expectations
- Plagiarism disputes — if you believe the content is plagiarized (see Section 05 for how such disputes are handled)
- Expired request window — if the refund request is made after the applicable deadline
- Account misuse — if your account is under suspension or investigation for policy violations
05 Plagiarized or Infringing Content
If you believe a Digital Asset you purchased is plagiarized, stolen from another creator, or infringes intellectual property rights:
- You should report the asset to alted. at contact@alt-ed.in with your evidence
- alted. will investigate the claim and, if substantiated, will remove the listing and take disciplinary action against the Seller per the Seller Agreement
- Refunds for plagiarized content are not automatically granted, as the file was technically delivered as listed. However, alted. may issue a goodwill refund at its sole discretion in clear and severe cases of infringement
- The Seller bears full legal responsibility for any infringement claims relating to their listings
06 Failed Payments & Debits Without Delivery
If your payment has been debited from your bank account or UPI but you did not receive access to the purchased file, this is treated as a failed transaction and is handled separately from the refund policy.
In such cases, please contact us at contact@alt-ed.in with your payment reference number and order details. We will liaise with the payment processor and initiate a full refund within 7 business days of confirming the failed delivery.
07 How to Request a Refund
To submit a refund request, follow these steps:
- Check EligibilityConfirm that your situation falls within one of the two eligible circumstances described in Section 03.
- Gather DetailsNote your order ID, purchase date, the asset name, and a description of the issue. For corrupted files, prepare a screenshot or error description.
- Contact UsEmail contact@alt-ed.in with the subject line: "Refund Request — [Order ID]". Include all relevant details.
- Wait for ReviewWe will acknowledge your request within 2 business days and complete our review within 5 business days.
- ResolutionIf approved, your refund will be processed to your original payment method within 7 business days of approval.
08 Refund Processing
Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method used at checkout (credit/debit card, UPI, net banking, etc.) within 7 business days of approval. Depending on your bank or payment provider, the refund may take an additional 3–5 business days to appear in your account.
alted. does not issue refunds in cash or via alternative payment methods to the one used for the original purchase.
Refunds are processed in INR at the original transaction amount. No interest or compensation is provided for the processing period.
09 Impact on Sellers
When a refund is approved and processed, the corresponding amount (net of the platform fee) is deducted from the Seller's pending payout balance. If the Seller's balance is insufficient, the amount will be deducted from future payouts.
In cases where refunds arise from a corrupted file, alted. will notify the Seller and request that they fix and re-upload the file. Repeated incidents of broken or unusable files may result in listing removal or account review.
